MAYOR HASAN CAN: “WITH OUR BOILING 60 CAULDRONS, WE WILL OFFER THIS DELIGHT TO 60 THOUSAND FROM ALL FOUR CORNERS OF ÜMRANIYE”
Speaking at each ashura distribution program, Ümraniye Municipality Mayor Hasan Can said, “As it is with every Muharram, on Ashura Days of of this Muharram as well, we try to provide services for all residents of Ümraniye to taste ashura’s deliciousness, taste, spirituality and sentiment.”
“Five years ago we started the ashura distributions with 10-15 cauldrons. Now with nearly 60 cauldrons boiling, we wish for residents in all corners of Ümraniye to live this spiritual atmosphere. Last Friday the ashura we made in, our sister city, Fojnica’s culture centre, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was offered after Maghrib prayers following a program done in the mosque. We sent a Vice-Mayor, two managers and two individuals from our youth sections as our representatives to Bosnia. They attended the programs on our behalf,” said Mayor Hasan Can. Touching upon Monday’s program, Mayor Hasan Can said, “Our Prime Minister Mr. Ahmet Davutoğlu was in Ümraniye. He visited the craftsmen and got together with industrial businessmen from IMES. After Dhuhr prayer at the IMES Mosque, he distributed ashura. We had two cauldrons ready. It was an elegant program. It was a program that delighted our Prime Minister. Because when he opened one of the cauldrons there was a Turkish flag made from pomegranate seeds. In the Other cauldron there was the logo of the Ümraniye Municipality.”
Mayor Hasan Can said, “Today we are participating in the program here. Hopefully we will have brought together our residents with our roughly 60 cauldrons located all over Ümraniye. Because our ancestry is one that has succeeded in doing everything decently, with the love of worship, starting all actions with ‘Bismillah’ and ‘Salvala’ and ‘Takbirs,’ and are ancestors who have made this tradition for themselves. Therefore we do this program also to remember such memoirs of our ancestors’ ashura ceremonies. We hope to have offered it to our residents with the intention of health, accompanied and boiled with prayers and recitations by Fatih Çıtlak and his team. We will administer from this ashura to our other 60 cauldron. So that hopefully, this ashura made with prayers and recitations will ferment for the other cauldrons too.”
“We must join our brotherhood in a stronger manner. This world is a world of trials for Muslims. And I think our greatest trial is that of brotherhood. And we must protect our brotherhood. We must succeed in creating an environment in which we can and do live as brothers and sisters in peace in this geography. May brotherhood live. I greet all of you with affection. May the offered ashura give you health. May God grant us to distribute more,” said Mayor Hasan Can.
Talking at the ashura distribution program in the Ümraniye Square, Ümraniye District Governor Suat Dervişoğlu, wished for a beneficial month of Muharram and in opening the cauldron with a Bismillah, offered some ashura.
The Municipality of Ümraniye will distribute ashura to 60 thousand people from 20 different locations. Meanwhile, a 60 person youth delegation from Macedonia, who came with the AK Party Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s organization, joined the ashura program and witnessed colourful events.
