MAYOR HASAN CAN: “THERE IS A GREAT DEMAND FOR IMAM HATIP SCHOOLS”

Giving the first speech in the program, Ümraniye Municipality Mayor Hasan Can said, “Today we are elated. We have come up to this point by picking the fruits of the work we have done over the years. Today, we’ve come to pick the fruit of a new tree. With the transition into the 4 + 4 + 4 education system and the opening of imam hatip middle schools, our community has shown an increased interest and demand especially towards imam hatip schools. Whether it be our government and its many organs, or as non-governmental organizations and municipalities, we could not remain deaf to these demands. Evaluating these requests, we are taking responsibility and doing the best we can for parents not wanting to sent their children to far schools.” Indicating the honor of providing for schools, trainings and dorms in the municipality for the past 11 years, Mayor Hasan Can also talked about culture and knowledge hubs. Also talking about the elementary schools to be made in the Çamlık, Altınşehir, and Upper Dudullu Neighbourhoods, Mayor Hasan Can ended his speech by saying, “Hopefully God will allow for us to complete them within this year. On the occasion of the groundbreaking of  Celalettin Ökten Hoca İmam Hatip Middle School and the opening of  the swiftly completed Mehmet Akif Ersoy Imam Hatip Middle School, which whose ground was broken eight months ago in the Atakent Neighborhood, may they conduce towards doing good.”

ISTANBUL GOVERNOR VASİP ŞAHİN: “EDUCATION IS THE FUNDAMENTAL INVESTMENT”

Saying “Education comes up as the most fundamental, unalienable investment,” the Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin ended his speech in saying that, “Ümraniye is one of Istanbul’s quickly developing municipalities. Compared with those of other municipalities, the needs here were much more. But thankfully, as we can see, it has become one of our best municipalities in student-teacher ratio and classroom numbers. The world has come to a point where we see the absolute importance of relaying science and technology, combined with religious knowledge, in a rational and accurate manner onto our youth. Unfortunately today, many different types of information concerning religion and ideology are imposed upon our youth and unfortunately some religious sects have come to the point of killing each other in the name of religion. Therefore the importance of imam hatips as institutions for correctly relaying and teaching religious information to our youth has increased.”

MINISTER PROF. DR. NABİ AVCI: “EDUCATION IS EXPERIENCING A SILENT REVOLUTION”

Indicating that Ümraniye is growing with speed in his speech, Minister of National Education, Prof. Dr. Nabi Avcı said, “In this sense, Ümraniye continues an example story for the rest of Turkey. I would like to thank Mayor Hasan Can for his endeavors and the knowledge and culture hubs that he has gained to 35 neighbourhoods in the municipality.”

Bringing attention to the development Turkey’s been experiencing in the last few years, Minister Nabi Avcı said, “Thankfully our government works hand in hand with our people to do whatever it can for what the people want. The schools we are opening and breaking the ground for today are beautiful examples of Turkey’s 4 + 4 + 4 administration. The people ask, the government does. In the last 13 years, Turkey has taken great strides in many fields. Looking Turkey’s success, foreigners have called this a silent revolution. National Education is experiencing one of the most fundamental components of this silent revolution. Within our re-nationalized education system, our children, our youth are preparing the Turkey of the future.”

After the speeches, Mayor Hasan Can gave the Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, and Provincial Director of National Education Dr. Muammer Yıldız tableaus made by Ümraniye Municipality’s Vocational Training Courses. Connecting to the groundbreaking ceremony of  Celalettin Ökten Hoca İmam Hatip Middle School via teleconference, Minister Avcı cut the ribbon at the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Imam Hatip Middle School’s opening ceremony. Later National Education Nabi Avcı, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin, Ümraniye District Governor Suat Dervişoğlu, Ümraniye Municipality Mayor Hasan Can and their accompanying delegation, toured the school, talked with children and took a commemorative photograph.
