In giving the march’s opening speech, Ümraniye Municipality Mayor Hasan Can said, “Together we walk hand in hand on the same path with love. At the end of this road Turkey’s destiny will change on June 7th. Pushing aside the coup constitution, which has been stigmatizing us for years, we will make a new constitution to pronouncing the voice of the people. Before this enthusiastic rally, we inaugurated the AK Party Ümraniye Election Coordination Center in Ümraniye and visited the cafe. May God let us emerge successfully. He has led us to success in nine elections up until now, and may He continue to do so from now on. Turkey is in need of AK-personnel and Turkey-lovers. May God bring smiles upon the faces of our people. I greet all of you with my love and respect.”
AK PARTY ISTANBUL PROVINCIAL CHAIRMAN SELIM TEMURCI: “IN GOD’S WILL, ON ELECTION NIGHT WE WILL CELEBRATE VICTORY HERE TOGETHER”
Indicating his happiness in being with citizens in Ümraniye, where the AK Party flag flies the highest on the Anatolian side, the AK Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Selim Temurci said, “In a city as beautiful as Istanbul, we walk on the same path with love and compassion. We didn’t just began this journey. Our journey began on August 14th, 2001 with our founding leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Now a great responsibility befalls upon the 2 million AK Party members in Istanbul. In God’s will we will attain victory together. Through planning and scheduling, as an organization we will hopefully leave no unvisited street or neighbourhood in Istanbul. We will continue this work in Istanbul up until the elections. In God’s will, on election night we will celebrate victory here together.”
THE METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY OF ISTANBUL’S MAYOR KADIR TOPBAŞ: “ONLY THOSE WHO TRULY REPRESENT THE PEOPLE CAN COME TO POWER”
Starting his speech by saying that political parties are an essential element to democracy, the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş said, “If there were other ideologies, today we would not be able to congregate, there would not have been elections but merely appointments. Examples of this are seen in the past around the world, and experienced first hand in our country. Now there is the actual effort and work of a political party brought about in Turkey by a democratic regime. We know very well that only those who truly represent the people can come to power. In the past certain political parties played with people’s hopes by making many pledges. It is easy to explain something to an honourable man. Because he will believe in everything. But then our people realized that all that was said only remained as words. They said the establishment of our party was the footsteps of the provinces. They said that Anatolia was coming. Some circles feared our coming to power. However, in the over 12 years that our power has been in power, we have signed off on great achievements both locally and nationally.” Giving the good news of the tendering of the Dudullu-Bostancı Metro in 15 days, Mayor Topbaş voiced that following the tender process, the subway’s construction will start as soon as possible.
Continuing his speech, Mayor Kadir Topbaş ended in saying “We are now in another election season. You will make up Turkey’s new rulership. As the people, it is you who will decide this. You are the ones who made this party, carried it to power and it is you who can authorise it again. Therefore your votes are very sacred. You must be very careful of this.”
MINISTER OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND URBANISATION IDRIS GÜLLÜCE: “IN GOD’S WILL ON JUNE 7TH, WE WILL ALL [DANCE] HERE TOGETHER”
Speaking last at the rally, the Minister of the Environment and Urbanisation Idris Güllüce, “There is approximately 1100 hours remaining until the elections of June 7th. After 1100 hours these people will have made their decision. You will say that while some only made pledges, the AK Party signed off on big projects, carrying out all of its vows. In God’s will on June 7th, we will [dance] here together. A couple of days ago we had a cadastre convention where there was 83 countries in attendance. I spoke with 30 ministers. More than half were from non-Muslim countries. ‘Hopefully you will win a great percentage on June 7th,’ they say, ‘and look out for us too.’ On June 7th, those suppressed all around the world will experience the same joy as us, not just those who live in Turkey.”
After the speeches, the AK Party’s Parliamentarian Candidates for the 1st District were individually introduced and greeted the public together. Carnations were distributed to citizens.
