Municipality of Ümraniye founded the Lady Chef project in December 2013 and continues to create employment opportunities to single mothers and to those women who need to provide for their families. Upon completion of the 6 month long pastry and cooking classes the trainees earned certificates, and an event was organized for the presentation of these certificates. She stated that “The objective of the Lady Chef Project was to provide the confidence women need to join the work force, and help them contribute to the household economy.”
In his speech, Birol Hayal, Vice Chairman of Ak Party Ümraniye District, stated: “Confucius said, don’t give them fish, teach them how to fish. With all the services they provide, the Municipality of Ümraniye is the Municipality that best practices this ideology.” Birol Hayal expressed his gratitude to Mayor Hasan Can for the services and opportunities provided to the women of Ümraniye with the Lady Chef Project.
MAYOR HASAN CAN: “THIS PROJECT IS FOUNDED ON HUMANITY.”
At the ceremony Mayor Hasan Can stated “We started contemplating the possibilities of helping the desperate women of Ümraniye who were struggling to contribute to the household economies and commenced our projects in order to help them. Today, Turkey has become a growing, developing country who envelops her people in all aspects. 10 years ago the country didn’t have a concept of disability and didn’t know the number of her disabled citizens; today Turkey provides a mother of three disabled children a monthly wage of over 2000 TL. Today we are presenting the certificates of our sisters who have completed our 6 month training program and subsequently became employed. And by providing day care services for the children of our trainees we also ensured the healthy development of their kids. This project is founded on humanity. This kindness stems from our beliefs, our customs and traditions.”
During his speech İstanbul Director of Turkish Employment Agency Muammer Çoşkun said: “As Turkish Employment Agency we assign an advisor to anyone who tells us s/he is looking for employment and try to find them a suitable job. And for the employers we provide the opportunity to work with competent personnel. I am grateful to those involved in this project, and I congratulate our sisters who have graduated from the program.”
At the end of the ceremony Mayor of Ümraniye Municipality Hasan Can presented gilded plates made by the trainees of the vocational courses to Muammer Çoşkun, İstanbul Director of the project partner Turkish Employment Agency, and to Sevim Karagöz, the owner of the Sevim Anne (Mother Sevim) Kindergarten who took care of the children while their mothers were being trained. The ceremony ended after the certificates were presented and photographs were taken.
