Organising an activity, Ümraniye Municipality, in the first pre-dawn meal of the Holy Ramadan, brings the long forgotten tradition of Temcid-i Şerif to life again
Historically based on the Ottoman era, the tradition of reading Temcid which heralds the Holy Ramadan, springs to life again in Ümraniye. According to this tradition as a practice particular to Ramadan, in the first dawn (or fajr) of Ramadan, prayers are going to be read from the minarets welcoming the Holy Ramadan.
Recovering this ancient tradition tending to be forgotten, Ümraniye Municipality hold a series of activities. Read from İmam-i Azam and İlim Sarayı mosques, Temcid-i Şerif will be broadcasted on Kanal 24 TV. Thousands of Ümraniye residents are going to be able to join this unforgettable moment in pre-dawn meal tables in the garden of the municipal building.
Besides that, the activity will contain many shows including sufi music concerts, light shows and entertainment for children. Program will end with the pre-dawn meal immediately after Temcid-i Şerif to be performed ghazal singers.
